Sustainability-inspired Successes: Mia Davis, Pact

Mia Davis has spent her career at the forefront of safer, more sustainable consumer products. Her leadership has shaped some of the most influential brands in the clean beauty and consumer goods landscape - including Beautycounter, Credo Beauty, and most recently Ollie pet food, where she has consistently moved organizations from intention to action.

But Mia’s impact extends far beyond any single company.

She has been one of the nation’s strongest advocates for stronger chemical safety and clean beauty regulation, working directly with the FDA and policymakers to advance standards that better protect human health. And when she saw that small, hard-to-recycle beauty packaging was falling through the cracks of existing waste systems, she co-founded PACT Collective, creating an industry coalition to address a problem no one brand could solve alone.

It’s this combination of corporate innovation, policy advocacy, and systems-level coalition building that makes Mia’s work so relevant to the core questions we explore in this series:

People are surprised to learn that many of the things they put into their curbside recycling bin are not actually recycled.  An estimated 120 billion beauty packages are made each year — most of them from virgin plastic, and most of them ending up in the landfill. Pact is a collective of beauty industry stakeholders taking responsibility for the impacts of our packaging. The  nonprofit membership organization sends "hard-to-recycle" beauty products to specialty recyclers to prevent the materials from becoming trash.
